Upcycling Food: A Food Waste Solution

As we near the end of National Nutrition Month, what better way to wrap it up than by sharing a story of how a Canadian rancher uses upcycled food to feed a delicious protein that is so vital to so many of our diets, Canadian beef.

The video features Jill Burkhardt from Crooked Lake Farm in Alberta, a beef rancher who has integrated upcycled food into the feed of her cattle to minimize food waste. Watch the video to discover the benefits of upcycled food and how it impacts this delicious protein.

Crooked Lake Farm

Crooked Lake Farm was purchased in 1918 and has since stayed in the family. The farm is located southeast of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and is presently managed and owned by Kelly and Jill Burkhardt, the fifth generation. The Burkhardt family raises hormone-free Angus-Hereford cross cattle on grassland and, in a unique way, incorporates upcycling techniques and other environmental well-being measures into the operations of their farm.

A special thanks to Crooked Lake Farms owner Jill Burkhardt for sitting down with us and enlightening us on this unique solution to food waste. Despite the fact that National Nutrition Month is coming to a close, we should continue to learn about our food and make informed decisions about what we put into our bodies.
