Vanderlip Marcy House – 96 Johnson Street, NOTL, ON, CA

Vanderlip Marcy House is a historic property and has recently become available for you to rent as the perfect vacation home. What an opportunity to experience a truly historical home with all the modern luxuries!!

After the town was burned in 1813, Vanderlip Marcy, was one of the first to be rebuilt in 1816. If you were to describe a signature home for Niagara-on-the-Lake, this is it! The classic black and white charm is quintessential to the area. Offering modern kitchen and bathrooms, really comfy cozy beds, 5 fireplaces, air-conditioning/heat and spectacular mature gardens, this home has always been well maintained and it shows! Solidly built and loving cared for over the past two centuries, the charm and the nostalgia of its origins remains for you to enjoy. The location could not be better, from the front door you can see down Victoria Street to Queen Street, the main shopping, dining and theatre district. Park your car and walk everywhere!

Throughout the original section, the wide plank flooring and exposed oak beams have been lovingly retained. Almost 200 years ago, these floors, walls and ceilings would have been privy to the conversations of Mr Vanderlip and other leaders of the community who rebuilt Niagara-on-the-Lake. I think they would be proud of how well the town is flourishing and the fact that we still cherish what they started.

Light floods into each room from beautiful muntin windows. French doors are everywhere on the ground floor leading into superb English garden settings. Enjoy people watching from the street side gardens or the privacy of the back garden nestled on a flag stone patio alcove with access to both the kitchen and the morning room. A flagstone patio and walk way are signatures of a period home in Niagara-on-the-Lake!

All three spacious bedrooms are in the original section of the home, main floor has a king bed, en suite and a beautiful sitting area. Upstairs is a queen bed with ample closet space as well as easy access to the fully renovated bathroom. The third bedroom is huge with a set of twin ‘nun’s’ beds. Although we are unable to verify, we think have been in the home for years and years, because there is no way to move them out! This room offers ample closet space, book shelves and sitting area. Recline on the chaise lounge for an early morning read while overlooking the activity of the street coming alive for the day! All beds have extremely comfortable mattresses and high quality 100% cotton bed linens. Perfect for snuggling into after a wonderful day of exploring the wineries, restaurants, parks or the local shops in town! How nice to go to the theater, and then come back to a home that predates the era of George Bernard Shaw!

The kitchen is also part of the original home and is a wonderful marriage of old and new. Appliances are hidden behind contemporary paneled doors, original wood plank floors and exposed brick provide elegant country charm. This huge kitchen has two sinks, double ovens, ample counter space and is well equipped. Also features a sitting area to keep the rest of your traveling companions close but not underfoot! Let them sip wine, while you reign supreme in this gourmet kitchen whipping up your favourite show-off recipes! Local grocer is just around the corner and don’t forget all the specialty food boutiques in old town!

The morning room is off the kitchen with two beautiful French doors flanking the working fire place. Full of light, cozy and comfortable with vaulted ceilings, this sitting area flows through to main foyer. The large entry hall has beautiful vaulted ceilings, French doors that lead to private back garden and a three piece bathroom (an amazing engineering feat to put a tub, shower, vanity, washer, dryer and lavatory all in one small space – yet so elegantly done!) The great room is off the other side of the foyer with a magnificent fireplace, this room is lined on both sides with French doors that provide easy access to all the mature gardens that surround this beautiful home. Great for TV watching, lounging around, or hanging out with your favorite novel! It is also a great space for entertaining indoors, while being surrounded by the outdoor gardens that are visible from the everywhere in the room. No need to worry about the weather, indoors or out-of-doors, this home has it all!

The beautiful nurtured gardens are an exquisite part of this beautiful residence meandering around the house connected by flagstone walk ways. They offer both private sitting and dinning spaces where you can enjoy the peace and quiet and listen to the fountain bubble in the English style setting.

This vacation home offers the ultimate living like a local experience.
